In a special event organized by the Ministry of Urban Development to launch the SwachhSurvekshan 2017, Sri Nila Boro, from Khalbari area of Noonmati, Guwahati was felicitated by the Ministry of Urban Development for his commendable dedication towards his work and initiative towards achieving the goals ofSwachh Bharat Mission. Shri Nila Boro was felicitated by Union Minister of Urban Development, Shri Venkaiah Naidu at the National Media Centre, New Delhi. Apart from Shri Boro, two municipal workers from Coimbatore and Greater Hyderabad were also felicitated at the event. The above three were selected out of a total 500 nominations from around the nation.


Shri Nila Boro has been working as a Safai Karamchari in Guwahati Municipal Corporation since 2008. He has been engaged in cleanliness activities in Guwahati Municipal Corporation. His work timing starts from early morning at 5 am. He cleans the roadways, collects household waste from the dustbins to makes the city roads clean for city people. From the day of his joining inGuwahati Municipal Corporation, he has never been absent for a single day from his duty. He covers a wide area in Guwahati from Ambika Giri nagar to Assam State Zoo. Although there are timings for everyone, Nila Boro’s work timings are dictated by the accomplishments of the work assigned to him. He may arrive at 5:00 am and work until his work is done which sometimes is as late as 8:00 pm. It is for this very reason Shri Nila Boro was also bestowed with the Best Worker Award in the year 2014 by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. Shri Nila Borois an inspiration to all his fellow workers and citizens for keeping Guwahati clean and green.
